Why is it that wine bought in a supermarket never quite tastes as good as the (same) wine from your local vintner?
"A wine shop was open and I went in for some coffee. It smelled of early morning, of swept dust, spoons in coffee-glasses and the wet circles left by wine glasses.” (E. Hemingway)
In the District Finder, our map of London's wine merchants is restricted to independent wine merchants and off-licenses. We do not include large general supermarkets like Sainsburys or Tescos. This is not because we hold any particular animus against these large stores. It is simply a reflection of our belief that independent wine shops have a disproportionately positive effect on the conviviality of a local neighbourhood.

You can use the map above to examine the geographical distribution of London's wine merchants. Use the filter to choose a borough and the map will automatically zoom into that part of town. Then, hover your cursor over any of the dots and a lightbox will appear, displaying the name of the wine shop, its street location and its postcode.
